# Install Specwatch in your project

Node.js22.12 or newer. Download specwatch-0.1.0.tgz, verify the accompanying SHA-256, then run in your JavaScript/TypeScript project:

```sh
npm install --save-dev ./specwatch-0.1.0.tgz
./node_modules/.bin/specwatch --help
./node_modules/.bin/specwatch gen src/example.ts --dry-run
./node_modules/.bin/specwatch ci --coverage --json
```

Installation downloads the package dependencies. Use your own existing Jest or Vitest project. Default generation requires Ollama running at http://localhost:11434 with the configured deepseek-coder-v2 model. Optional cloud providers need project-specific configuration/credentials; source context is sent to the selected provider. Never paste credentials into templates or generated tests.

Generate coverage with the framework first (Istanbul coverage-final.json); Specwatch checks existing measurement, not a fresh coverage run. Missing/invalid coverage exits2; test/gap failures exit1. Test subprocesses execute npx with argv and shell:false. Preview --dry-run before changes. Ordinary gen/watch/fix can replace sibling tests: keep them under version control and review output.

The download is a local package, not an instruction to install a registry release.
